Growing up in Asian culture, I often witnessed and experienced a standard parenting technique called “Other People’s Children (别人家的孩子).” It refers to comparing one’s child with someone else’s child and is usually carried out by our parents/family. It was almost done daily at home and in school and primarily used to point out our deficiencies (Look at what your friend has achieved this year) and motivate us to work harder…
